Experts weigh in on Franken's resignation

GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) -- For local students this is a political lesson in real time.

It probably won't surprise you the University of North Dakota's Political Science Professor, Bo Wood, says allegations against the Minnesota Senator and others in powerful positions have been major topics of discussion.

Wood says he believes Franken's decision was made for both personal and political reasons.

"My sense is that he's worried that his continued presence if he refuses to step down, that that will undermine his ability to work with his democratic colleagues and that will give ammunition to republicans so it makes it easier for them to resist pressure to step down," says Bo Wood, UND Political Science Professor.

As for his students?

Wood says many of them are divided on the issue.
