Line 3 Pipeline timeline pushed ahead
WHITE EARTH RESERVATION, MN (WDAZ-TV) -- People living on the White Earth Reservation are responding to a controversial decision in Minnesota.
Enbridge Energy wants to build the Line 3 Pipeline from Canada to Wisconsin -- running right through Northern Minnesota.
Some say it'll bring jobs to the area; Environmentalists say the project could destroy the boundary waters, and any spills could jeopardize the fishing tourism and wild rice production on local reservations.
The public utility commission was set to push a decision until September.
But this week, the commission decided against the delay -- asking for a decision by the end of April.
"Most of them are in an uprage. They don't understand how this could even be happening. Disbelief that a corporation could even think about doing this,” says William Paulson, resident.
Paulson and other opponents of the pipeline say a decision in April won't give them enough time to react.
