DICKINSON, N.D.—U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., announced Wednesday that he will bring Tommy Fisher, president and CEO of Fisher Industries, as his guest to next week's State of the Union address. Last year the Dickinson-based Fisher Sand and Gravel Co. was one of six companies given a contract to develop a prototype for construction of a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico by the U.S. Customs and Border Protections Agency.

President Donald Trump's State of the Union will be on Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Washington.

"I am honored Tommy accepted my invitation to attend the State of the Union," Cramer said in a statement. "As Congress develops comprehensive immigrant enforcement legislation, I am proud to know a North Dakota company is a finalist to construct the border wall between our nation and Mexico. Fisher's reputation for quality construction will be an asset for the nation's security and a great deal for the American taxpayer."

During the State of the Union Address, each member of Congress is allowed to invite one guest to sit in the gallery and view the speech.

"I am honored to accept Rep. Kevin Cramer's invitation to attend the State of the Union address," Fisher said in a statement. "Fisher Sand & Gravel Co. was started by my father in southwestern North Dakota over 60 years ago, and it is a privilege to represent all of the employees of Fisher Industries at this address."

Fisher said in a recent Fox News interview that the company has submitted a proposal that would also include "high-speed" access roads for agents as well as flood protection. He also claims the company will be able to construct "700 consecutive miles with no exceptions for mountains, in less than six years all backed with a two-year warranty," the company's website says.

"We are a true design, manufacturing and building company," Fisher says. "Our vertical integration allows us to control all aspects of the project, which ultimately drives schedule, price and quality. We believe our solid concrete wall will withstand the elements better than any other alternative."

Fisher Sand and Gravel Co. was started in Dickinson by Gene Fisher in 1952. The company employs approximately 1,200 employees working in support of heavy civil construction throughout the Dakotas, Arizona, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico and Wyoming, according to a press release.

U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D. also announced Wednesday that his guest for Tuesday's State of the Union will be Cara Mund, who was crowned Miss America last year.

"Cara made history becoming the first Miss North Dakota to be crowned Miss America," said Hoeven. "She is a wonderful example of the bright young people we have in our state. Cara, who served as an intern in my office, has a long history of community and public service and has raised over $78,500 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She does a wonderful job representing North Dakota and our nation as Miss America, and we are glad she has accepted our invitation to the State of the Union."
