Becker County, MN - Excessive speed was likely the cause of a fatal rollover Thursday morning on Becker County Road 17, south of Highway 59, on Thursday, according to Becker County Sheriff's Sgt. Shane Richards.

The driver of the northbound 1999 Chrysler minivan,  Kevin James Evans, 57, of rural Vergas, appeared to lose control on a curve and overcorrect, causing the van to roll several times and end up about 150 yards into a field, where it caught fire.

Richards said Evans was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled and died at the scene. Emergency personnel searched the field, but found no passengers and Richards believes the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The crash occurred about 8 a.m.
