Nationwide cut could impact ND troops

A nationwide cut proposed by the U.S. Department of Defense could impact troops in North Dakota.

The state's National Guard could lose about 210 soldiers under a plan for the federal agency's budget this fiscal year. These losses to the force could decrease North Dakota's military by less than 5 percent. According to a spokesman, Governor Jack Dalrymple joined several other state governors in sending a letter to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel in protesting the cuts. If enacted, the cuts implemented by the department would begin in October that would propose a reduction of 20,000 soldiers worldwide.
