Prosecutors weighing charges in West Fargo infant death

WEST FARGO – Authorities are investigating the death of a 4-day-old male child who died June 14.

“Due to the circumstances surrounding the death a request was made for law enforcement to investigate the matter,” West Fargo police said in a statement today.

Police would not identify the dead infant and said the investigation has been turned over to the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution.

The West Fargo Police Department responded June 13 to a report of an infant not breathing at an apartment in the 2900 block of Seventh Street S.W.

Officers tried to resuscitate the infant, who was transported by ambulance to Essentia Hospital, where the boy was placed on life support and died the following day.

An autopsy was performed at the University of North Dakota Medical Center in Grand Forks, and law enforcement was asked to investigate the death.

The Cass County prosecutor handling the case, Ryan Younggren, was not immediately available for comment.
