WF's Liberty Middle School hosts launch party for SpaceX launch, had experiment inside rocket
West Fargo, ND (WDAY/WDAZ TV) - The failed space launch created a bit of a damper for students in West Fargo.
On Sunday, Liberty Middle School was hosting a launch party. Three students had created an experiment to test how rust forms in a microgravity environment. The project was part of the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program. It was aboard the rocket when it exploded.
The school was just one of 25 communities in the U.S. to participate in the program.
Although the launch was a failure, partygoers still celebrated the success of the students with cake and ice cream.
Jacob Angus/Project Member, "I didn't expect this. I don't think anybody really did, but you just got to move on and try to get it to work next time."
The advisor in charge of the project says the students will get to recreate their experiment and it will be sent up with the next launch in about six months.
