Petition started following UND administrative shakeup
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) - At least 3 top administrators at UND are leaving the university.
Peter Johnson is the interim vice president for university and public affairs, as well as UND spokesman. His position is being eliminated. Johnson will resign July 1, along with interim vice-president for student affairs, Laurie Betting.
Betting’s position is being combined with the current dean of student's job. Johnson and Betting both took buyouts. As of 2014, both were making roughly $130,000 a year.
Alice Brekke, UND vice president for finance and operations, will be phasing down her workload, retiring at the end of the 2018-19 school year. In 2014 she was making nearly $277,000 a year, in the top 3 of the school's highest paid administrators. Brekke's position will be filled.
When WDAZ sat down with Mark Kennedy one year ago, he spoke about the importance of building his own team.
“I would classify myself as somebody who builds a great team, sets them on their path, celebrates their success, is there to help in any way I can,” said Kennedy.
This news breaks Thursday as the school announces just how much will have to be cut from UND athletics. Decisions will have to be made in the next two weeks.
All of this as a growing number of students are saying UND's president is unqualified and unfit for the job. One student has created a petition. She says, because of budget cuts, her teachers will be fired or forced to drop classes. She's calling for transparency and says she wants to see where her tuition money is going.
