Firefighters battle East Grand Forks Quonset fire
EAST GRAND FORKS, MN--Crews are battling a fire that filled the sky with dark smoke for most of Thursday afternoon.
It started around 3:15 PM inside a quonset at a home off Highway 220 just north of East Grand Forks.
The WDAY caught footage of the flames on the tower camera.
The family was home when the fire started and called 911.
Firefighters tell WDAY News the fire was mostly contained to the attic and rafter areas of the structure before it collapsed.
The building is considered a total loss.
It's unclear what was inside.
“Fire is under control. What we're worried about right now is any spark or embers going up into the vegetation because we are near some crop land right now. So we're just watching that so nothing else spreads at this time,” said East Grand Forks Fire Department Assistant Chief Jeff Anderson.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but it is not considered suspicious.
