GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ) -- We have a gold medal winning version of the news tonight - as North Dakota is celebrating history right here in Grand Forks.
Grand Forks' Golden Girls are finally home after leading the US Olympic Women's Hockey team to gold in South Korea exactly two weeks ago.
And of course - what better place to celebrate than the best hockey arena in the country - the Ralph.
Matt Henson looked into how Monique and Jocelyne Lamoureux came up big to bring gold home to North Dakota for the first time ever.
It all happened back on February 22nd.
The United States took on Canada in the women's gold medal game.
Canada led in the third period 2-1 when Monique Lamoureux had a breakaway and scored to even things up at 2 a piece.
This game would eventually go to a shootout and in the 6th round Jocelyne Lamoureux made the move of the year putting the Canadian goalie in a pretzel. She finished the goal.
Maddie Rooney made the stop on the other end to close it out and the United States won the gold medal in women's hockey for the first time since 1998.
Now it's going to be an action packed night here at the Ralph - we have a lot more coming up - including how you can help celebrate - how much the Lamoureux sisters mean to the game of hockey - not just here in Grand Forks - but on the national scale and we will have a LIVE interview with the sisters.
