Red River girls track staying focused on themselves

2 / 2

For the Grand Forks Red River girls track and field team, they have been going head to head in team results with Fargo Davies all season long.

It will be the same scenario at the EDC track and field meet this week, but this meet is much more than bringing home a trophy.

These girls are focusing on what is going on within their team rather than the outside noise.

While EDC is important to this team, it's another meet to try and make it to state for the Roughriders.

The EDC meet will be on Friday at Fargo South while the state meet is set to take place on May 25th and 26th in Bismarck.

Mark Pearson

Mark is the Sports Anchor at WDAZ. He comes to Grand Forks from his hometown of Grand Rapids, MI. Mark graduated from Butler University in 2016 and started working at WDAZ in July of that year. Mark is the Monday-Friday Anchor for the 6 and 10 O'clock shows. During his time as the Sports Anchor at WDAZ, he has covered events like March Madness, Super Bowl 52, and interviewed many athletes--from kindergarteners to professionals. Mark loves playing and watching sports as much as he enjoys covering them--when he was in high school, he was the captain of his varsity basketball team, and he played on Butler's club basketball team. Mark's favorite part of being a sports anchor is capturing and sharing the moments in sports that connect the community. Aside from broadcasting and reporting, Mark loves when he has the opportunity to be the play-by-play announcer for athletic events. In his spare time, you can find Mark shooting hoops, eating ice cream, or hanging out with his wife, Kelly, and their cat, Stella. Fun fact: Mark loves math so much, he added a math minor, just so he could take more college calculus courses.
