Two UND men's hockey players were given NCHC preseason accolades today. Sophomore forward Brock Boeser, who is the reigning conference scoring champion, was the only unanimous selection to the NCHC Preseason All-Conference Team. Last season Boeser was named NCHC Rookie of the Year and racked up 60 points in 42 games. Cam Johnson is the other Fighting Hawk getting preseason all-conference team accolades. Johnson received 27 of the 30 votes possible. The Troy, Michigan native also had a school-record shutout streak of 298 minutes and 25 seconds.
UND sophomores Jordan Vail, Denae Dominguez and freshman Ashley Brueggeman came to UND for different reasons. Vail transferred from Baylor, Dominguez was brought in from Texas by UND head coach Mark Pryor, and Brueggeman came from a much close by Eden Prairie, Minnesota. But the trio played for the same JO team in San Antonio, Texas when they were in high school. Brueggeman moved to Minnesota when she was a sophomore year and the group never thought they would play together again.
In North Dakota 9-man, North Star taking on top-ranked Thompson. Adam Diedrich gets the scoring started for the Tommies. And the Calen Schwabe-Cadyn Schwabe duo was working well together as Thompson wins big 56-6. Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page on the road against the reigning nine-man state champs. Richland rolls 44-22 to move to 4-1.
Larimore and Park River-Fordville-Lankin on the gridiron tonight. The Polar Bears ranked first in Class A and the Aggies number two. And the last time PR-F-L lost was in 2014 to Larimore. Royce Verkuehlen rushed for over 200 yards for the Polar Bears who come away with a statement win 40-0 the final. Langdon-Munich putting their undefeated record up against Rugby.
Central looking for its first win of the year taking on North tonight. The Knights hit the ground running in this one. Jace Carey provides some offense as the Knights get their first win 29-0 the final. Red River at home taking on Fargo South tonight. Both teams get on the board in the first and the Ruiders take the lead in the second on a Matt Laturnus touchdown. But Fargo South comes back to win 20-14.
Grand Forks, ND (WDAZ TV) - The word dynasty doesn't even touch what Red River boys' tennis has done the last two decades. 17 of the last 18 state championships and just two losses since the year 2000. Coincidentally those two losses coming to today's opponent, Fargo South. Both teams undefeated on the season. The Riders take all three of the doubles matches to start the afternoon. Prem Thakker takes three singles: 6-2, 6-3. Kaden Johnson is the two sinles winner: 6-2, 6-3.
Devils Lake, ND (WDAZ TV) - Jacob Mertens plays football, basketball and baseball for Devils Lake. The senior is a leader in all three sports as a quarterback, guard and pitcher. He has been the starting QB for the Firebirds the last three seasons and has played on the varsity basketball team since he was a freshman. Jacob was also voted captian by his teammates a junior on both the football and basketball teams. In school he has a 4.0 GPA. Jacob hopes to play basketball at the collegiate level.
Grand Forks, ND (WDAZ TV) - Red River tennis hosting Fargo North this afternoon. Jake Kulman and Kaden Johnson take one doubles 6-4, 6-1. Gavin Loscheider and partner Simon Murphy win two doubles 6-2, 6-1. And the Riders complete the sweep of North this afternoon. At University Park Fargo Shanley and Grand Forks Central were battling. The Knights number two doubles wins in two sets. And Central pulls out a 5-4 win.

Victoria is a force at the net leading the way with 16 kills. Haylie Carlstrom gets a team-high eight kills for the Green Wave. But the Rams win in straight sets on the East Side.
