GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ)—Snow and cold are a given in the Grand Forks area, but between multiple forecasts, outlooks, and predictions, everyone’s talking about what’s ahead for the winter. National Weather Service meteorologists sat down to chat with us about their winter forecast...and it's not the news you may be hoping for. It’s the first week of fall, and many are out enjoying the season. “Fall is like my favorite season. I’m just glad it’s getting cooler out. Not as hot,” said Jessica Nelson, of Grand Forks.
EAST GRAND FORKS, MN (WDAZ-TV) -- The rainfall in Texas has set a new record for the continental U.S. More than fifty inches in a week. At least thirty people are known to have died across Texas, while thousands of people have fled their homes. Two of those people are back home tonight in East Grand Forks. It's the most common STI in the country, and it's rampant in Grand Forks. Laura Spicer from Valley Health tells us she's treating more and more cases of Gonorrhea. Symptoms can mask as other things, and in many cases, there are no symptoms at all.

Last year, Josh ditched the watering can for a backpack and went to a 3-year-old preschool class, 2 days a week. His mom says it wasn't all about learning letters and numbers.
NORTH DAKOTA (WDAZ-TV) -- It's the largest pipeline to be considered since DAPL. A proposal to replace a major pipeline across the state is before the state Public Service Commission. With the memories of sometimes-violent protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline fresh in everyone's minds, the state Public Service Commission met in Minot Monday, considering the biggest pipeline permit request since Dakota Access in the state; the Cenex Pipeline.
THIEF RIVER FALLS, MN (WDAZ-TV) - Beyond the farm. A local teacher started a first of its kind program that she hopes will revolutionize our region's ag industry. "We have goats, sheep, cattle, pigs, chickens and a partridge in pear tree almost." Adawn Nelson farms in Thief River Falls. But her passion for ag has taken her beyond the farm and into the classroom. She's been teaching for two decades, but now, she's about to reach a new level of students.
FARGO, ND (WDAZ-TV) - A bizarre story has the internet up in arms; a clothing store banned children over the weekend. A sign on the door informed shoppers at Plato's Closet in Fargo that kids under 7 were not allowed inside. This is technically legal, but the public was not having it. Facebook backlash was immediate. On Wednesday afternoon, WDAZ confirmed kids are now allowed back in the store, but some are sharing their experiences of being kicked out.

GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) - An infection going around our area, here’s how to protect your kids and yourself. Doctor Colleen Swank with Altru says by far the most common diagnosis in kids and teens in Grand Forks and Devils Lake is pharyngitis. The Majority of cases are viral, but some are related to Strep throat. Drink lots of liquids, take Tylenol or ibuprofen for pain. Seek medical care if a fever is higher than 101 or if you're unable to take in enough liquids. Stephanie Hinkle with Sanford Health in East Grand Forks, is seeing cases of pink eye.
