GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) -- People across the country are using poppies to remember our veterans. Tomorrow, locals will be handing out paper poppies at Hugo's, Walmart, and Home of Economy. Nearly every single one of them was hand-made by 90-year-old Alfred Steiger, who we featured last Thursday as our Gem of the Week.
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ)--Honoring area veterans. On Friday, a group from Grand Forks: friends, family members, vets, and current service members, gathered at Memorial Park Cemetery South, and put flags on the graves of every veteran from our community who has passed away. The volunteers tell us it's an honor.
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ)--Some local seventh graders are bringing school supplies to students in another country. On Thursday, students at Schroeder Middle School held a yard sale. They sold items they've been collecting from area families. All the money they raised will be sent to train teachers and buy books for students in Ethiopia.
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ)--On Thursday, The Blue Line Club held their 8th Annual Golf Tournament today at Kings Walk. Golfers are raising cash for youth sports, hoping to fix facilities, among other things. “Youth sports here in Grand Forks are a big part of our community and you know you see a need for facilities and we're able to able to raise those funds to help support those programs,” said Blue Line Club President, Tony Binna.
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) -- If you're tired of making trips to the grocery store North Dakota's newest shopping app could be for you. "Instacart" is the new way to get groceries. By either going online or using the app you can make a shopping list and someone will pick your items up and deliver them to you. People will be able to start ordering groceries tomorrow, but you'll also be able to sign up to be a 'Shopper." They are the people that will get the groceries and deliver them.

GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ)--On thursday, you can have your chance to meet and greet your local Sheriff candidates. On Thursday at 6PM, you can meet each of the candidates at Frank Matejcek's Red River Angus Farm. All 7 candidates will talk about their vision for the county, and answer questions. The event is free, and so is the food.
EAST GRAND FORKS, MN (WDAZ-TV) -- More affordable housing is coming to the grand cities. The city of East Grand Forks is selling land its owned since the flood of 1997 to develop six twin homes by Valley Golf Course. The mayor says entry-level housing is something that's been lacking since the flood and the city is trying to entice developers into building more entry-level homes by easing prices and regulations.
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ)-A need for less speed. Grand Forks police are adding extra patrols on Demers and Gateway. The Department wants to keep a closer eye on the streets after city engineers found more than half the drivers were speeding. Both streets have a 40 MPH speed limit.
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) -- The Grand Forks public school system is serving two meals a day this summer, for free, to anyone under 18. From June 4 through June 28, the program will serve breakfast from 8 to 8:30 AM at seven elementary schools listed here: Breakfast (8-8:30 AM)
