GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) -- Lots of people spent the day digging out - and with the strong winds the process could be put on repeat for the next few days. And you may be in danger and not realize it until it is too late. WDAZ'S Danielle Saitta joins us live to talk about Frostnip and when you should seek medical help for it.
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) -- An ice skating path expected to open Friday on the Grand Forks Greenway will have its inaugural opening postponed until next week. The new "freezeway" downtown is still under construction. The project's organizer says the delay is because of today's storm. The Freezeway rink will be set up near Town Square.
GLADSTONE, ND (WDAZ)--The "Geese in Flight" statue along a North Dakota highway is involved in an ugly court case. The statue along the Enchanted Highway is the largest scrap metal statue in the world, at more than a hundred feet tall. New owners of the land it sits on recently put up a fence around it, saying the statue is in disrepair and is not safe for people to see up close. Enchanted Highway says that they were not notified before the fence was installed--and the owners are in violation of the lease agreement.
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) -- Parking downtown Grand Forks may be cut in half. The Department of Transportation is presenting four options for Demers Avenue downtown. One is repaving, the other three options are variations of a total reconstruction -- all getting rid of right turn lanes. One would add parking spaces.
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) -- From farm to table. This week's Ag-All Star is Ely's Ivy -- a new restaurant serving up a menu grown by local farmers. The eatery is located on 3rd Street, next to Kittsona lifestyle. Locals and owners Rachel and Scott Franz opened the spot in late November, with hopes to partner with area farmers to bring homegrown food to the community.
LANCASTER, MN (WDAZ-TV) -- Change is here for the Lancaster and Roseau border crossings. Sunday is when the U.S. Customs and Border Protection will change the hours at the Lancaster and Roseau entry points, closing them four hours earlier. CBP says not enough people use the crossings and those agents could be used at busier ports. Three hundred residents and business leaders lobbied against the plan.
GRAND FORKS COUNTY (WDAZ-TV) -- Police say a FedEx driver delivered a crime of opportunity. This woman, 37-year-old Trisha Berg, of Crookston faces a list of charges. Police say she got her car stuck in a ditch in rural Grand Forks County. A FedEx man stopped to help. That's when Berg allegedly got into the truck and tried to drive it away but got stuck in the snow. Police say Berg's 9-year-old son was also there and not dressed for the sub zero temperatures. Deputies say Berg put up a fight before being arrested.
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ)--With this major arctic blast hovering overhead, vets are reminding you not to forget about your furry family members. If a pet is exposed to the cold for to long, that can cause skin irritations and frostbite. Pet paws are sensitive to snow and chemical ice melts. Vets suggest the use of pet booties or protectants be applied to their paws.
NORTH DAKOTA (WDAZ-TV) -- Our temperatures may be bitterly cold, but lottery fever is heating things up with a growing jackpot. Both the Mega-Millions and Powerball jackpots are worth more than 350 million dollars each. The two have only both ballooned past 300 million at the same time once before. Lower odds and new rules have helped boost the games' prizes, but also made it harder to win.
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) -- Authorities are crediting a police dog with turning a traffic stop into a drug bust on UND's campus. Police say they stopped a car on University Avenue shortly after 2:45 New Years morning. Thirty-four-year-old Derrick Laducer and forty-six-year-old Ronald Keplin were in the car. Police say their K-9 sniffed out meth.
